Australia is a rugby-loving nation with a rich history in the sport. Rugby has been played in Australia since the 1860s, and the national team, the Wallabies, has been a force in international rugby since their first test match in 1899. The Wallabies have won two Rugby World Cup titles and have been runners-up twice.

Rugby World Cup History

Australia has a proud history in the Rugby World Cup, having won the tournament twice in 1991 and 1999. The Wallabies have also finished as runners-up twice, in 2003 and 2015. In the 2023 Rugby World Cup, Australia will be looking to add a third title to their collection.

Squad

In 1987 the inaugural Rugby World Cup competition was held in Australia and New Zealand. The 1987 final was won by New Zealand on home soil. In 1995, South Africa also won the Rugby World Cup on home soil. Australia won the prestigious Rugby World Cup Webb Ellis trophy twice more, in 1991 and 1999. In 2000, Australia Rugby Union won every international trophy contested. Australia hosted the fifth Rugby World Cup in 2003.
